DUTCH RENOWNED ARMENIAN STUDIES EXPERT WEITENBERG DIES AT THE AGE OF 69

YEREVAN, APRIL 18, ARMENPRESS: Dutch prominent Armenian studies
expert Joseph Johannes Sicco Weitenberg, died at the age of of 69,
Armenpress reports, citing Armenian Scientific Cooperation.

Weitenberg has always shown a special interest for Armenian language
and Armenia. He was the first and the last head of the Armenian
department of Leiden University. The Armenologist took an active part
in the cultural life of the Dutch-Armenian community.

After his retirement Weitenberg started writing a scientific research
work on Armenian history, which, unfortunately, remained incomplete.
