Russia has always held an active mediatory position in the settlement
of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Speaker of the Russian Federation
Council upper parliament house Valentina Matviyenko said on Monday.

According to Matviyenko, “good will from both parties” is needed to
find a solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. A peace solution
must be based on resolutions of the United Nations Security Council,
on principles of international law, on principles of the integrity of
states and non-use of force, she noted. “I believe if we proceed from
these principles a solution will be found,” she stressed. The issue,
in her words, is pressing not only for Azerbaijan and Armenia but
for the entire region.

The Russian upper parliament house speaker said the potential of the
Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE), which is tasked with a mediatory mission in the settlement
of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, has not been exhausted. “The work
of international mediators [Russia, the United States, and France]
provides a possibility for the continuation of the negotiating
process,” she stressed and noted that parliaments must help “create
a background for a peaceful solution to the problem.”

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
