Turkey’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu ANKARA-A report published
this week by the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedoms
that ranked Turkey as one of the worst oppressors of Christians has
been deemed “null and void” by the Turkish Foreign Ministry, reported
the Hurriyet Daily News on Friday.

“The report, which is prepared by politicians representing some
interest groups, contradicts the findings of U.S. State Department’s
annual reports so far,” the ministry said in a written statement
according to Hurriyet.

The commission “fell short in understanding” the steps taken recently
by Turkey on freedom of religion and protecting the rights of
non-Muslim minorities, the statement continued.

The Foreign Ministry also criticized the report for failing to
address incidents in Europe based on Islamophobia, with many mosques
having been attacked and religious leaders being appointed by impose
of state. The statement thus claimed that “the report [had been]
prepared for political reasons.”

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
