STREET ACTIONS ONLY WAY TO CHANGES IN ARMENIA – OPPOSITIONIST

The New Times party will attempt to cause changes in Armenia by means
of street demonstrations.

At his Tuesday meeting with journalists, party Chairman Aram Karapetyan
said that he meant “revolutions.” In this context he mentioned the
Arab countries. Parliament is one of the ways of forcing changes. The
party, however, rejects parliamentary activity as a way toward
serious changes.

On the other hand, Karapetyan says it is not his wish to force changes
by means of street actions. “This is worldwide practice,” he said.

In his turn, Manvel Badeyan, an MP of the ruling Republican Party of
Armenia (RPA), noted that the party objects to radical ways though
changes may be tangible in this case.

The party is not running for parliament, and Badeyan considers it
an honest step. “Some parties have less potential than the New Times
party, but they seek to remind the public of themselves,” he said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
