Public Television comments on the decision on Armenia’s
non-participation in Eurovision 2012

17:44, 7 March, 2012

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS: Public Television of Armenia cannot send
a delegation to Azerbaijani capital of Baku to participate in
Eurovision Song Contest scheduled for May, 2012, Armenpress reports.

In its statement on non-participation spread March 7, Public
Television of Armenia states that despite the promises of Azerbaijani
authorities on providing security guarantees for all participant
countries, days ago the Azerbaijani President “made an exclusion” for
one of those countries, announcing that world-spread Armenians are
No.1 enemies of Azerbaijan.

“Actually we can register that the president of the country hosting
Eurovision officially states that all the Armenians, including those
who must have been involved in the delegation of “Eurovision”, are
enemies of Azerbaijan. Consequently, there is no logic in sending a
participant to a country, where delegation members are to be treated
as enemies. This is a principal issue for us,” the statement runs.

Public Television finds that an atmosphere created on the background
of analogical and other anti-Armenian statements and activities cannot
ensure equal conditions for all the singers participating in
“Eurovision”, which, according to the television, is one of the main
ingredients of the contest.

Public Television announces that it will continue participating in
“Eurovision” afterward, too, and presenting Armenia at the
all-European song contest.

Public Television has actively participated in Eurovision since 2006
and in Junior Eurovision since 2007.

In December 2011 Armenia hosted “Junior Eurovision” song contest,
which was held in an atmosphere of solidarity and was deeply
appreciated by everyone.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
