Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople, Archbishop Aram Ateshyan met
with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahvet Davutoglu on Saturday.

Hurriyet reports that the meeting was part of Davutoglu’s visits to
Turkey’s minority religious leaders.

Ateshyan expressed concern over the recent anti-Armenian rallies in
Istanbul’s Taksim Square. He said that if Armenians are deported from
Turkey, that country will become lame.

Ateshyan noted that it was the first time a Turkish government
remembered their community and said that Davutoglu’s visit was very
meaningful.

In his turn Davutoglu said: “For us the rights of all our citizens are
equal. Together we will overcome the prejudices that are contradictory
to this big culture that Turks and Armenians built together.”

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
