PanARMENIAN.Net – U.S. is sure to use Azerbaijan’s territory to launch
possible military operation against Iran, according to Director of
RA NAS Institute of Oriental Studies.

“Through cooperation with the U.S., Azerbaijan will attempt to settle
Nagorno Karabakh conflict in its favor,” Ruben Safrastyan said,
however, ruling out the possibility of hostilities with Iran in the
nearest future.

“U.S. won’t benefit from a war with Iran from a strategic standpoint.

However, controversial it may seem, Iranians have a more positive
approach towards America than some U.S. partner states do,” Safrastyan
said.

The number of tourists visiting Armenia increased by 10.3% in 2011
as compared to 2010, Deputy Minister of Economy Ara Petrosyan told
a press conference today.

Most visitors come from the CIS, European countries, also as from
Japan and other Asian countries, the Deputy Minister said.

Ara Petrosyan disagrees with the opinion that having rest in Armenia is
an expensive pleasure. “The accommodation fees in most hotels are not
higher than those in other countries of the region. I mean Azerbaijan,
Iran, Georgia and Turkey,” he said.

Ara Petrosyan said the reconstruction of roads to the places of
interest will be in the focus of attention this year, and the Ministry
of Economy is actively cooperating with the Ministry of Transport
and Communication on the issue.

Another priority in 2012 is to ensure the proportional development
of tourism resources in marzes of the republic.

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE DENIAL BILL TURKISH PARLIAMENT’S BUSINESS – FRENCH SENATOR

Esther Benbassa, one of the French Senators that objected to the
Senate-approved bill criminalizing denial of genocides, stated that
it is the Turkish parliament that should have adopted such a bill.

She believes it is historians rather than parliaments or courts
that write history. On the other hand, such a bill should be adopted
by Turkey rather than by France, Ms Benbassa said as quoted by the
Turkey-based Agos.com website.

Turkey is the principal denier, however, she added.

The French Senate approved the bill on January 23. On January 31,
the French MPs that objected to the bill (76 Senate members and 65
National Assembly members) challenged its constitutionality. They
appealed to the Constitutional Council of France.

Ms Benbassa is among the Senators that signed the appeal.

The Constitutional Council of France is to hear the appeal on February
29 or March 1.

The More Snow, The More Harvest We Shall Have

THE MORE SNOW, THE MORE HARVEST WE SHALL HAVE

05:37 pm | Today | Economy

The recent heavy snowfall in Armenia has delighted Armenian Minister
of Agriculture Sergo Karapetyan.

“The more snow falls, the better for the soil. We shall have more
water resources and more harvest. Our reservoirs will be filled with
water. Abundant snow brings with it purity, joy and exuberance,”
Mr Karapetyan told a news conference on Friday.

Summing up the results of the previous year, the Minister said great
achievements had been recorded in the spheres of plant growing and
horticulture. With respect to live-stock breeding, Minister Karapetyan
said that Armenia is going to import 500 high-yielder heifers.

“Our cows give neither good meat, nor good milk. An average cow gives
less than 200 liters of milk per year, which is very low if compared
to other countries,” said the Minister.

Speaking about the Ministry’s priorities, Sergo Karapetyan said they
are going to provide low-interest agricultural loans, low-cost nitrogen
fertilizers and fuel to farms.

The Minister also said that three agricultural open-air markets will
be opened in Armenia in 2012.

‘Polygon Azerbaijan’: Azerbaijan’s True History ‘in Context Of Globa

‘POLYGON AZERBAIJAN’: AZERBAIJAN’S TRUE HISTORY ‘IN CONTEXT OF GLOBAL POLITICAL PROCESSES’

Panorama.am

“There are many books about Azerbaijan’s history, featuring
Armenian-Azerbaijani relations in the light of Karabakh. Thinking
it important to correctly represent Azerbaijan’s history, I wrote
this book in a year and a half time, but I had been collecting the
factual materials included in the book for years,” Aris Ghazinyan,
the author of the book titled “Polygon Azerbaijan” said at the book’s
launching ceremony.

The preparation work of the book was done by the Public Relation and
Information Center of the RA President’s Administration.

The author noted that the book consists of three parts. The first part
dwells on the logic and history of the formation of the Azerbaijani
nation. The second part represents Azerbaijan’s historiography. The
third part gives the history of development of Azerbaijan’s statehood.

“Azerbaijan’s statehood was proclaimed in 1918 by Enver Pasha’s
brother, Nuri Pasha. Baku became the capital of Azerbaijan Republic
only after Armenian massacres were committed in Baku in 1918,” said
Ghazinyan, adding that Azerbaijan proclaimed statehood three times,
and every time Azerbaijan became a republic the historical conditions
implied Armenian massacres.

“There is a common opinion among us that the Azerbaijanis who
were killing the Armenians were barbarian and half-educated. But
it was not so. We must always remember that there were Azerbaijani
intellectuals, editors, historians and engineers in the vanguard of
Armenian massacres,” said he.

According to Ghazinyan, he tried to represent the true history because
the international community and experts are not well aware of the
issue, and the Azerbaijani propaganda machine constantly represents
its own viewpoint, making it sound convincing.

The book gives Azerbaijan’s history in the context of global political
processes, said the author.

A. GHAZINYAN: “WE DO NOT AIM TO MAKE AZERBAIJANIS ANGRY, WE HAVE MORE SERIOUS TASK”

Today, on February 10, presentation of the book named “Polygon
Azerbaijan” took place. Aristakes Ghazinyan, journalist of “Golos
Armenii” (“Armenian voice”) newspaper and armeniannow.com news agency,
is the author of the book.

The preparations for the book have been done by the “Center of the
public relations and information” of Armenian President’s staff.

“~SCenter of the public relations and information” of Armenian
President’s staff has published two books on the end of last year. One
of them is “Polygon Azerbaijan” which you see now and another book is
called “How did it happen”? The latter is devoted to the Arstakh was
and includes the studies of our experts. And on January, this year
book named “Turkish fears: Sevres syndromes” was published. Two other
books will be presented to the audience soon”, Ara Saghatelyan, head
of the “Center of the public relations and information” of Armenian
President’s staff said in his welcoming speech. He also informed that
the center will soon present also two new films about Artsakh war.

“I have worked on this team for nearly 15 years. And this event
is really important for me not only my book is presented here, but
because the theme is very important. The book lives separated from the
author and lives as long as it is read”, author of the book Aristakes
Ghazinayn applied to the presents.

Rating the activities of the “Center of the public relations and
information” of Armenian President’s staff in our reality, he said:
“Today when we say war we do not mean only military struggle, but also
mean economical war, information war. We know well which economical
war means. We have been in economical occupation for about 20 years.

We also well realize what information war means.

Today official Baku always repeats the same fake stories, but if
the world hears those stories all time and there is no answer form
Armenia, the world may once get used to those stories and even believe
in them. And here the role of the center is especially important. Here
journalists, experts work who are involved in the process”.

As the speaker noted the center gives answers to Azerbaijani fake
with books, films.

Referring to the book presented today, the author informed that it
is really large and includes three books in it.

“The first part presents the history of formulation of Azerbaijanis
as nation, when different tribes were gathered and were unified. They
were called “Azerbaijanis” since 1918, but this name was not used for
a long time. It started to be used since 1930 and Stalin urged to use
it. This was an anti-Turkish step by Stalin as this part was separated
from Turkey. Before this separation people considered themselves to be
just Turks.” The author also noted that he presented with an example
how well-known Persian poet may suddenly become an Azerbaijani. Nizami
Gyanjeev is that poet.

Historiography of Azerbaijan is the theme of the second part of the
book. “We know well that history and historiography are different
things. Historiography is written by the state, organization or party
and has concrete themes. And history presents the events as they
were though may be not always objective. History assists to realize
present and future better. But there is no history in Azerbaijan”, A.

Ghazinyan noted. According to the author, it is very important also for
us to understand the history. “Especially, we must realize that today’s
strained Armenian-Azerbaijani relations are not result of Artsakh war,
but Artsakh war is a result of tensions, which were before.”

And the last part of the book is devoted to the history of State
system of Azerbaijan, “Here is a regularity: every time Azerbaijan
announced about the State system (it took place for three times, on
1918, 1920 and 1991), they made Armenian massacres”, the speaker noted.

Speaking about the aims of the book A. Ghazinyan said that it is mostly
for the international experts who study Artsakh issue as often they
do not know the reality and truth.

“We do not aim to make Azerbaijan angry, we have more serious task”,
author of the book concluded.

Washington Policy On Genocide Undermines U.S. Morals – Journalist

WASHINGTON POLICY ON GENOCIDE UNDERMINES U.S. MORALS – JOURNALIST

PanARMENIAN.Net
February 10, 2012 – 16:11 AMT

PanARMENIAN.Net – American journalist Tasbeeh Herwees published an
article revealing U.S. authorities’ position on the Armenian Genocide
recognition.

The article titled “Controversy Over Armenian Genocide Puts U.S. On
Shaky Moral Ground” depicts recent developments over adoption of the
bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial.

“Turkish authorities are already up in arms about the Genocide bill,
denouncing the law and threatening France with economic sanctions.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan railed against the bill, calling it
“racist” and a threat to free speech.

Egemen BagıÅ~_, the Turkish Minister of European Affairs, said the
law was “null and void” in Turkey and Turkey’s ambassador to France
hinted at his possible “permanent departure” from Paris after the
bill was approved in the French Senate.

In the midst of the democratic uprisings raging across the Middle
East, Turkey proudly trumpeted the praises of international experts
and diplomats who promote it as an example of a democratic Islamic
state to future Arab leaderships.

The U.S. in particular has strengthened relations with the Turkish
government in recent years. Just last week, President Obama named
Turkey among his top five international “friends.” Like most U.S.

presidents, Obama made plenty of promises to officially recognize the
Genocide once in office to Armenian-American voters. But he has since
pandered to Turkish interests by avoiding the Genocide label at all,
enabling a horrific tradition of genocide denial,” the article reads.

On January 23, the French Senate passed the bill criminalizing the
Armenian Genocide. If signed into law, the bill will impose a 45,000
euro fine and a year in prison for anyone in France who denies this
crime against humanity committed by the Ottoman Empire.

A Zurich prosecutor on February 6 launched an investigation into
remarks by BagıÅ~_, after he said in Zurich that there was no Armenian
Genocide and that Swiss authorities could arrest him if they wanted to.
