Armenian Genocide Denial Bill Turkish Parliament’s Business – French

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE DENIAL BILL TURKISH PARLIAMENT’S BUSINESS – FRENCH SENATOR

Esther Benbassa, one of the French Senators that objected to the
Senate-approved bill criminalizing denial of genocides, stated that
it is the Turkish parliament that should have adopted such a bill.

She believes it is historians rather than parliaments or courts
that write history. On the other hand, such a bill should be adopted
by Turkey rather than by France, Ms Benbassa said as quoted by the
Turkey-based Agos.com website.

Turkey is the principal denier, however, she added.

The French Senate approved the bill on January 23. On January 31,
the French MPs that objected to the bill (76 Senate members and 65
National Assembly members) challenged its constitutionality. They
appealed to the Constitutional Council of France.

Ms Benbassa is among the Senators that signed the appeal.

The Constitutional Council of France is to hear the appeal on February
29 or March 1.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
