COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS DISCUSS FUTURE PLANS AT ARF CONFERENCE

Armenian Weekly
January 20, 2012

QUEENS, N.Y. (A.W.)-The ARF Eastern Region organized a one
day conference that focused on ways to cultivate, organize, and
develop community initiatives and events, and to capitalize on human
resources. The event took place on Jan. 14 at the community center
in Queens, N.Y. The regional executives of the ARS, Homenetmen,
Hamazkayin, and AYF were present.

A scene from the conference Each organization presented a summary
of their previous year’s work, and discussed their plans for the
coming year.

Possible plans for the 100th year anniversary of the Genocide were
also discussed, including the organizational and financial aspects.

Participants unanimously agreed that the event must have a pan-Armenian
nature, and should include all Armenian organizations in the
region. They decided that it would not suffice to plan commemorative
events for April 24. Instead, they suggested organizing multiple
events, spanning the duration of 2015, and conveying demands for
reparation. According to the participants, the significance of the
year calls for a national and united effort. Hence, they resolved
to take initiatives in the political and cultural fields, as well as
the media, to create a positive response in the U.S. public sphere.

The participants also met with Armenia’s Ambassador to the U.N. Garen
Nazarian. The meeting lasted an hour, during which Armenia’s current
political, economic, judicial, and social affairs were discussed.

From: Emil Lazarian | Ararat NewsPress

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
