Ter-Petrosyan not to meet PACE co-rappourteur

13:41 – 14.01.12

Armenia’s first president and leader of the opposition Armenian
National Congress (ANC), Levon Ter-Petrosyan, is not going to meet
with PACE co-rapporteur, John Prescott, who will on a visit to Armenia
between January 16-17.

Vladimir Karapetyan, a spokesperson for the ANC, told Tert.am that the
European official will have a meeting only with him and two other
representatives of the opposition alliance – Levon Zurabyan and Avetis
Avagyan.

`Those who seized power at the price of their people’s blood cannot
disclose the real slaughterers,’ he said, referring to the March 2008
post-electoral turmoil that left 10 people dead in capital Yerevan.
`We will prove that the ruling authorities conceal the circumstances
of those ten people’s death, leaving the perpetrators in freedom.’

Karapetyan added his meeting with Prescott will also address the work
of media outlets.

`We will prove that the authorities’ statements on holding free and
fair elections are not true, given the unequal conditions in the media
sector. The media imposes restrictions on the ANC,’ he saod.

The oppositionist further unveiled his plan to consider the
possibility of adopting a 100% proportional representation system in
Armenia and amending the Electoral Code.

`We also have proposals on the voting procedures, such as inking
fingers in an attempt to rule out the possibility of a second voting,
as well as publishing the electoral role after the polls and
installing video cameras,’ he added.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
