ILIA II TO PROMISES SUPPORT FOR RESTORATION OF ST. NSHAN AND ST. NORASHEN CHURCHES

Representatives of Georgia~Rs Armenian community, led by Bishop
Vazgen Mirzakhanian, Primate of the Georgian Diocese of the Armenian
Apostolic Church, paid a visit Thursday to the Patriarchate of the
Georgian Orthodox Church, and, on behalf of the devout Armenians, they
conveyed New Year and Christmas wishes to Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia.

During the meeting Bishop Mirzakhanian expressed his concern over the
dismal condition of the churches in capital Tbilisi~Rs historical
Armenian district, specifically the St. Nshan and St. Norashen
churches.

He asked for Ilia II~Rs involvement in resolving this problem,
proposing that the above-mentioned churches be returned to the Armenian
Diocese, or be protected by the Georgian authorities until the matter
is resolved.

In his turn, the Patriarch of Georgia expressed hope that his
involvement would help solve the issue.
