CATHERINE ASHTON VISITS ARMENIA, MEETS SERZH SARGSYAN

Yerevan stresses the strengthening and deepening of ties with the
European Union, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a meeting
with Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign
Affairs and Security Policy, News Armenia reports.

Sargsyan noted that the dialogue with EU partners has recently improved
in its bilateral and multilateral formats. The president noted that
improvement of ties is a wide cooperation process.

The Armenian leader believes that the state needs to be built basing
on European standards.

The meeting with Ashton at the summit of the Eastern Partnership in
Warsaw in late September was a good reason to exchange views on the
cooperation, he reminds.

Ashton noted that she is pleased with progress achieved in Armenian-EU
relations, underlining the need to strengthen ties and praising
efforts to improve bilateral cooperation. She thanked everyone for
contributing to the progress.

The sides also talked on reforms Armenia holds as part of progress
in cooperation with the EU. They also discussed regional problems.
