AZERBAIJANI PRESIDENT WELCOMES EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER CATHERINE ASHTON

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has welcomed a delegation headed
by Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for
Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Trend reports.

Aliyev underlined that cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European
Union has a wide format and is fruitful. The president recalled
his meeting with Ashton in Warsaw and noted that the new meeting is
significant for the region. He expressed hope that the visit will
lead to further improvement of ties between Azerbaijan and the EU.

The sides discussed prospects for cooperation in energy and exchanged
views on a settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict.
