A soldier from a military unit in the northern region of Tavush has
contacted No Silence youth initiative’s hotline service to complain
about discrimination against him.

Hovhannes Yesayan, 19, said a routine dispute at the unit had caused
the regiment commander, Seyran Ghazaryan, and the headquarter chief,
Artur Kirakosyan to file a lawsuit against him. The soldier claimed
that the unit command had furnished the law enforcement agencies with
false evidence that could lead to a two-months’ detention.

The court ruling has entered into force but the command reportedly
refuses to disclose it to the soldier. Yesayan considers it a
deliberate measure to prevent him from appealing the ruling with a
10-day period.

The phone conversation was recorded is being published upon the
soldier’s request, A copy of the record has been sent to the Ministry
of Defense.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
