Russia intends to continue to contribute to the negotiation process
on the settlement of the Karabakh conflict, Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev said at a joint press conference with visiting Armenian
President Serzh Sargsyan.

“An important topic of negotiations was the reinforcement of stability
in the South Caucasus,” Medvedev said.

“I personally believe that a fair settlement of the conflict can only
be achieved politically,” Medvedev added.

“Russia will continue fostering Nagorno Karabakh negotiations as an
OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing country and through direct contacts with
the leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” President Medvedev said.

He reminded that much had been done in that direction over the past
years. “Russia intends to continue to contribute to the negotiation
process as Minsk Group co-chairing country and will promote the
direct contacts between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan,”
Medvedev added.

In his turn, Serzh Sargsyan praised Medvedev and Foreign Minister
Sergei Lavrov for their mediation efforts and confirmed readiness to
stick to peaceful methods in resolving the conflict.

The Russian leader added that by the end of the year the two countries
are expected to reach the pre-crisis level in terms of bilateral
economic development.

“Our cooperation in energy, high technology and transport is on the
rise, this is a good sign”, Mr. Medvedev said.

He also said that he shared Sargsian`s opinion that energy projects
such as the South Stream gas pipeline and some others should ease
tension in the region and strengthen the partnership.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
