Ten years in prison is an incomparably light punishment for Yanis
Sarkisov who killed his own wife, Arthur Sakunts, Head of the Vanadzor
Office of the Helsinki Association has said.

Speaking to a press conference, Sakunts said that the perpetrators
of such cruel murders are usually given a life sentence.

He also said it was not also clear what mitigation circumstances did
the court find to make such a verdict.

“I am not in favor of making the punishment stricter, but the court
ruling is surprising too,” said he, adding that under the circumstances
the killing took place, the punishment is inadequate.

Yanis Sarkisov was given a ten-year for having beaten his wife Zaruhi
Petrosyan to death last year.

“If we consider the crimes committed by those 101 convict who have been
given life sentences that punishment is lighter,” explained Sakunts.

Further, he said that Sarkisov should be deprived of his parental
rights.

“You cannot trust the upbringing of a child to such a person,”
Sakunts added.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
