The PACE resolution on Armenia has controversial provisions,
Armenian MP from Heritage Party Armen Martirosyan said at today’s
press conference in Yerevan.

“On the whole, the resolution can be qualified as good. However, it
contains a number of controversial provisions. In particular, one of
such controversial items is the formulation concerning the Electoral
Code. Another controversial item is that due to the establishment of
a dialogue between the Armenian National Congress and the Armenian
authorities, the Chapter on March 1 2008 events can finally be
considered for the Assembly. A positive aspect is that the Assembly
is going to continue the monitoring until the investigation of the
case of the ten deaths is over and that the Assembly is expecting the
Armenian authorities to make a report or at least an interim report
on this issue by late 2011”, Martirosyan said.

The MP pointed out that one more positive fact in the PACE resolution
is that the electoral process in Armenia will be in the focus of the
international community’s attention; consequently, it is extremely
important to hold transparent elections in Armenia. He also expressed
his concern over the issue of “A1+” TV channel, which is not in the
line of the PACE Ministerial Committee.

To recall, the resolution on Armenia was adopted at yesterday’s
sitting of PACE. 40 delegates voted for the document, and 3 Azeri
delegates voted “against”. Armen Rustamyan, ARFD deputy, member of
the Armenian Delegation, abstained from voting. Heritage MP Zaruhi
Postanjyan boycotted the voting.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
