`It’s much more interesting to think about future’, Robert Kocharyan states

Yerevan/Mediamax/. The second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan
thinks that there are tangible preconditions for 2012 and 2013
elections to be held without any shocks.
Robert Kocharyan said this in his interview published in `Golos
Armenii’ newspaper today, Mediamax reports.
`Indeed, there are tangible prerequisites and they existed in all the
previous elections. The point is that all the participants of the
election process should demonstrate responsible behavior. Elections
are the culmination of the political process and as a rule they are
accompanied by overheated moods. Any party or a leader who lost the
elections can manipulate his excited supporters even in case of
perfect elections. The point is in the degree of readiness to cross
the line and the number of fanatical supporters. It’s typical of
developing countries and young democracies. However, of course, in
case of fair elections the possibility of such a scenario is sharply
reduced. We should strive to ensure this’, said the second President
of Armenia.
Answering the question about high rates of economic growth achieved
during his presidency, Robert Kocharyan said that ”choosing the
motion vector of the country is the key factor”.
”In this respect, mistakes are fatal. I should admit that it was hard
to change the depressive moods and spur the economy. Only in 2001 did
I feel for sure that economy is revving up and the authorities’
objective is to remove the hindrances and support the process. This
resulted in 10.5% average annual growth of GDP over the 10 years and
12.5% growth over the past 7 years of my presidency. The life quality
of people substantially improved over these years. By the way, we used
to rank among top 10 of the most quickly developing countries. We
proved that it’s possible to develop at high rates without sacrificing
long-term national interests, in conditions of blockade and unsettled
Karabakh conflict”, stated the second President of Armenia.
Answering the question on which of his decisions made over the past 20
years was the best one in his opinion, Robert Kocharyan said that he
didn’t hold any ”inspection” of the past.
”There are some many interesting things in life and there is no limit
to self-improvement. Living in present and thinking about future is
much more interesting”, noted the former President. –0–
