AZERBAIJAN DENIES LINKS WITH DOWNED DRONE

Azerbaijan’s defense ministry has denied any connection with the
unmanned aircraft reportedly downed in its breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh
region.

Armenian media reported Wednesday that an Azerbaijani drone was shot
down in the disputed territory on September 12. Images allegedly
showing the downed wreckage of the spy plane were posted on the
video-sharing website YouTube the same day.

Nagorno-Karabakh is an Armenian-speaking enclave within Azerbaijan
that has declared independence from Baku.

Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a war over the region after the collapse
of the Soviet Union that left 35,000 people dead and displaced about
1 million others. The war ended in a ceasefire in 1994 and since then
the enclave has been under the control of Armenian forces.

Tensions along the border remain high and repeated international
efforts to broker a peace deal have failed.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
