ARMENIA WELCOMES EU EFFORTS IN SETTLING NAGORNO-KARABAKH CONFLICT

Yerevan welcomes EU efforts in settling the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict,Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said on Wednesday.

Philippe Lefort, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus
andthe Georgian Crisis, said that the world will not allow force to
beused to solve the conflict. He noted that solution of conflicts is
theshortest path to EU association.

Lefort said that the OSCE Minsk Group mediates the negotiation
processwithin the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The
EU willprovide additional support in the issue.

The South Caucasus has great economic and cultural potential
in theregion to be developed, the representative said. He said
that theSouth Caucasus is significant for realization of various
jointprojects. The region connects Europe and Asian-Pacific states.

Philipp Lefort was appointed on August 26 and took office on
September1. He replaces Pier Morel (EU Ambassador to Central Asia)
and PeterSemnebi (UE Ambassador to South Caucasus). Lefort will stay
in officeuntil June 30, 2012. He will support conflict settlement
with thecoordination of the UN, the OSCE and the Minsk Group.
