ARKA
Sep 1, 2011

YEREVAN, September 1. /ARKA/. Armenian Agriculture Minister Sergo
Karapetyan, Executive Director of Vice President on Institutional
Affairs of Pernod Ricard Jean Rodesch and Yerevan Brandy Factory
Director General Ara Grigoryan met Wednesday to discuss the buildup
of the brandy factory’s industrial capacity and procurement of grapes.

The minister said that Armenian vinedressers expanded their vineyards
and introduced advanced technologies thanks to the company. They sell
their crop on contracts.

Karapetyan said that a rich grapes harvest is expected to be this
year. He finds it very important to organize procurements properly,
in time and without losses.

The minister expressed confidence that Yerevan Brandy Factory would
successfully handle it now, as before.

According to the Armenian agriculture ministry’s figures, processing
companies intend to purchase 144,000 to 155,000 tons of grapes
this year.

In 2010, 135,000 tons were bought at 124.4 drams per one kilogram. As
a whole, AMD 16.8 billion was paid to vinedressers in 2010.

Yerevan Brandy Factor was established in 1887. The present plant was
constructed in 1953. In June 1998, the factor joined Pernod Ricard
Group – an international corporation owning some widely-known brands
and the second largest alcoholic drinks maker.

The corporation acquired the Yerevan Brandy Factory via an
international tender for $30 million. ($1 = AMD 367.93).

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
