H. MELIK-SHAHNAZARYAN: MEDVEDEV MAKES UNDERSTAND HE IS ABLE TO MAINTAIN PEACE IN CAUCASUS

Azerbaijan is hindering progress in the negotiation process due to
the Armenian side’s strong diplomatic position, political scientist
Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan told a news conference in Yerevan.

According to the expert, the Armenian side, taking the initiative
in the negotiation process, has not suffered any territorial loss
over these 17 years, what is more, Artsakh is prospering and living
in peace.

As to Dmitry Medvedev’s statement that Azerbaijan and Armenia have
learnt a lesson from the Russian-Georgian war, Melik-Shahnazaryan
said that Medvedev made understand that any peace violation in the
Transcaucasus will make Russia defend the opposite side.

“Medvedev makes understand he is able to maintain peace in the
Caucasus.”

The international community and the Co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group
realize that it is time for Artsakh to participate in the negotiation
process, and this accounts for Azerbaijan’s hysteria, the expert said.

“Azerbaijan is trying to put off the day when Artsakh will be involved
in the negotiations.”
