Today the team made the win a reality, as yesterday they were still
a step away from this achievement. The games in the 9th round saw
Armenia compete with the Ukraine players. The following pairs played

According to the article, “Armenia made peace with the Ukraine,”
as “all four grandmasters tied their games and made peace with on
another.” The much desired win for the small nation of Armenia came
after Armenia’s run capped in the tournament.

Chess playing is mandatory as course work in Armenia’s schools and
this chosen game of intellect paid off for this country today.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
