YEREVAN. – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan believes that migration
in Armenia became vivid, continuous and seasonal during the last
ten years. People usually leave on Jan-May, and return in summer,
while in Sept they leave and arrive at the end of the year.

“The main factor that concerns us is the negative difference between
departures and arrivals of the citizens, as more people leave then
return. About 57,000 people did not return Armenia in 2000, the
number was 60,000 in 2001. However, positive trend was registered in
2004-2006. As a result, 23,000-29,000 people did not return Armenia
during the last years,” president said.

The only means to eliminate the negative migration is struggling
against the phenomena which force people to emigrate the state,
he added.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
