MINISTRY OF ECONOMY AND CORPORACION AMERICA SIGN AGREEMENT TO ESTABLISH FREE ECONOMIC ZONE NEAR ZVARTNOTS AIRPORT

YEREVAN, July 14. / ARKA /. The Armenian Ministry of Economy and
Corporacion America (concessionaire of Armenia’s international
Zvartnots airport) signed on Thursday an agreement to establish a
free economic zone near the airport.
The document was signed by Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan and
a representative of Corporacion America, chief manager of Armenia –
International Airports company Marcelo Wende. According to Davtyan,
this document designates next steps that are planned for the final
establishment of free economic zone near Zvartnots.
“The most important thing is that the work is already underway. We
have already created the legal basis for the formation of free economic
zones “he said after signing the document.
He also added that a package of relevant government decisions is
made which clearly describe the mechanisms for creation of free
economic zone.
“These projects will be approved by the Government in the near future”,
he added.
The minister did not specify when the first free economic zone may
appear, saying that in the future two more such zones will be set up.
The Minister noted that the formation of a free economic zone will
attract more innovation and modern technology to Armenia. Marcelo Wende
said in turn that Corporacion America is interested in this project.
“We decided to go further, and after the construction of passenger
terminal we plan to make Zvartnots a multimodal transportation center,”
he said.
