Hairikyan’s Prescription

Addressing the civil conference organized by the Heritage Party, the
leader of the National Self-Determination Union Party Paruir Hairikyan
said the political life of Armenia has seen a few systemic reforms,
and we must refer to them today to determine our approach.

He says all the problems we face today, from political prisoners to
social problems have one remedy: power must belong to people. We agree
that democracy is the main goal, and everyone must come together to
run in the parliamentary election in a united front to reach that
goal, he says. Once we become majority, we must adopt a system in
which Armenia will belong to people, Paruir Hairikyan says.

Hairikyan presents the brief model which he proposes. Each vote for
the parliamentary candidate must be reflected in the parliament. When
a member of parliament votes, he or she votes as many times as the
votes he received in the election. Hence, a parliamentary vote becomes
an indirect referendum.

Once we are able to do this, we will achieve a systemic change and
establish democracy. I am ready to contribute my experience to this
cause, Paruir Hairikyan says.
