The Day of the Republic of Armenia was traditionally marked on the
margins of the 37th International Book fair in Buenos Ayres.

Addressing more than 1 000 participants of the gathering, Armenian
Ambassador to Argentine Vladimir Karmirshalyan noted: “Creation of the
Armenian alphabet in the 5th century was perhaps one of the remarkable
events in the 3 000-year history of the Armenian people. Thanks to
that the Bible was translated into Armenian, a number of books were
published, which comprise the most valuable part of our cultural
heritage.”

Ambassador Karmitshalyan noted also that it was symbolic that two
sister-cities – Buenos Ayres and Yerevan – were chosen as World Book
Capital of 2011 and 2012 respectively. “Yerevan will organize a large
international book exhibition next year. Books published in Armenian
and foreign languages will be displayed. Argentine will be represented
in a separate pavilion,” the Ambassador noted.

Forty-two states and 1 500 publishing houses participate in the 37th
International Book fair in Buenos Ayres.
