UN TRYING TO STEP UP PEACEFUL REUNIFICATION OF CYPRUS

Yerevan (Yerkir) – United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said
on Monday leaders of divided Cyprus must make more effort if a peace
deal is to be successfully concluded and that both had pledged to
work on a deal as soon as possible.

The United Nations has been trying inconclusively for years to end
decades of conflict between Greek and Turkish Cypriots which has
impeded Turkey’s ambition to join the European Union, where Greek
Cypriots represent Cyprus in the bloc.

The United Nations acts as a facilitator in talks, and last week
announced "significant progress" on some aspects of how the two
sides could govern the island together in a future two-zone federation.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
