THE REGULAR SESSION OF CIS YOUTH AFFAIRS COUNCIL HELD IN ASTANA

ASTANA, NOVEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS: The regular session of CIS Youth
Affairs Council with the participation of the representatives of
the executive committee of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and CIS was held in Astana.

Press service of CIS executive committee reported that the session
participants discussed the project on the strategy of international
youth cooperation of CIS states and mainly approved it taking into
consideration the remarks and proposals put forward by CIS states,
as well as the recommendations of the fourth forum of creative and
scientific intellectuals of CIS states, which was held in Kishinev. A
decision was adopted to submit that project to the discussion of CIS
Council of Heads of Governments.

The council paid attention also to the implementation process of
the program on the main preparation and celebration events dedicated
to the 65th anniversary of the victory in World War II (1941-1945),
which has been confirmed by the decision adopted by CIS Council of
Heads of States October 10, 2008.

Russian Deputy Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy O. A.

Rozhnov has been elected chairman of Youth Affairs Council. The
regular session of the council is intended to conduct March-April,
2010 in Azerbaijan.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS: Vice-speaker of the Armenian
parliament Samvel Nikoyan and head of the NA’s science, education,
culture, youth and sport affairs permanent commission Artak Davtyan
met today with the Council of Europe director of Youth and Sport
Affairs Ralf-Rene Weingartner.

NA public relations department told Armenpress that S. Nikoyan
highlighted Armenian youth’s Euro integration, their participation
in cooperation processes as well as ensuring and development of
inter-cultural dialogue. NA vice-speaker said that the issues of the
youth have always been under the limelight of the National Assembly,
and one of the NA’s committees is dealing with their issues.

Davtyan pointed out that for already several sessions the bill on
youth has been discussed but rejected because of being of declarative
nature. The NA wants to adopt a bill which will ensure mechanisms
for solution of concrete issues of the youth.

Ralf-Rene Weingartner registered that during the two-day meetings
in Armenia he got an impression that the youth policy in Armenia has
registered a real and visible growth which shows the activity of the
youth and the steps of state bodies which have under the limelight
the issues of the young people.

During the meeting the sides also discussed other issues of the sphere.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. RA NA Vice-Speaker Samvel Nikoyan and
Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture,
Youth and Sports Affairs Artak Davtian, on November 3, met with Council
of Europe Director of Youth and Sport Ralf-Rene Weingartner. According
to the RA NA Public Relations Department, RA Deputy Minister of Sport
and Youth Affairs Arsen Karamian also took part in the meeting.

S. Nikoyan attached importance to issues of complete participation of
the youth in European integration, cooperation processes, as well as
international activity and ensuring and development of intercultural
dialogue. He mentioned that problems of the youth have always been
in the focus of attention of the RA National Assembly.

Ralf-Rene Weingartner expressed satisfaction with the fact that
from various meetings held in two days he got the impression that
youth policy has recorded a real and visible growth in Armenia,
which is evidence of youth activity, care and steps undertaken by
state structures attending to youth problems.

Local and international programs promoting citizenship, activity of
the youth, human rights, democracy, and cultural pluralism within the
framework of the Council of Europe policy were also touched upon at
the meeting.

RA DEFENCE MINISTER RECEIVES HEAD OF GREEK ARMED FORCES SPIRITUAL SERVICE

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. RA Defence Minister Seyran Ohanian
met with Head of Greek Armed Forces Spiritual Service, Colonel Georgios
Apostolakidis on November 3. The interlocutors mentioned that the
military and military-political cooperation formed between Armenia
and Greece, where cooperation in the spiritual service sphere has a
unique role, moves towards permanent expansion. NT was informed about
it by RA Defence Ministry Information and Public Relations Department.

S. Ohanian thanked G. Apostolakidis and the structure headed by him
for cooperation, for providing spiritual and advisory assistance
to Armenian servicemen carrying out peacekeeping mission in
the Greek subdivision in Kosovo and taking part in the higher
command-headquarters courses of Greek Armed Forces. He expressed
the hope that exchange of experience in the sphere of armed forces
spiritual service will be permanent.

EL QUWAIT, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. RA President Serzh Sargsyan arrived
in Kuwait on a state visit in the November 3 midday. RA President’s
official meeting ceremony took place at El Kuwait airport.

Members of the delegation headed by S. Sargsyan are: Foreign Minister
Edward Nalbandian, Minister of Finance Tigran Sargsian, Minister
of Diaspora Hranush Hakobian, Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosian,
Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotian, Chairman of the NA
Armenia-Kuwait deputy friendship group Vahan Hovhannisian, Chairman of
the Union of Manufacturers and Businessmen of Armenia Arsen Ghazarian,
Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Martin Sargsian.

According to RA President’s Press Office, besides various meetings
envisaged within the framework of the visit, S. Sargsian will also
meet with representatives of the Armenian community of Kuwait.

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. Newly appointed Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to RA Masaharu Kohno
(residence Moscow) handed his credentials to RA President Serzh
Sargsyan on November 2. The Ambassador assured that he will do his
utmost for further development of bilateral relations.

S. Sargsyan, in his turn, mentioned that there is still much work to
do in the issue of development of bilateral economic relations.

Thanking the government of Japan for assistance provided to Armenia
and for supporting development programs he mentioned: "The grants,
technical assistance and privileged credits provided by the Japanese
government are of too much importance for us. I attach special
importance and think that it is a success, the modernization program
of Yerevan TPP, which will give Armenian economy a possibility to
develop, will also weaken social tension to some extent."

According to RA President’s Press Office, the sides agreed that the
two countries have a great potential of economic cooperation, which
should be used completely.

The interlocutors also exchanged thoughts over normalization of
Armenia-Turkey relations. The Ambassador said that the Japanese
government completely supports that process.

the Chairman of the Anti-Defamation League big Jewish organization
acting in the U.S. declared that organization’s position in connection
with the events of 1915 has not changed and they continue supporting
Ankara in that issue.

According to Azdag, Foxman also expressed a hope that the latest
Turkish-Israeli tension will be overcome as the Turkish-Jewish strong
friendship has always existed.

RA President To Pay Two-Day State Visit To Kuwait

RA PRESIDENT TO PAY TWO-DAY STATE VISIT TO KUWAIT

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. RA President Serzh Sargsyan is
leaving for the State of Kuwait on a two-day state visit on November
3. It is RA President’s first state visit to Kuwait since Armenia’s
independence.

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, Kuwait’s
crown prince Navah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, other representatives
of country’s higher leadership will meet S. Sargsyan at Kuwait
International Airport.

According to RA President’s Press Office, on the first day of the
visit S. Sargsyan will meet with Kuwait NA Speaker Jassim Mohammad
al-Khorafi and Prime Minister Nasser al-Mohammad al-Ahmad al-Jaber
al-Sabah. He will also meet with Director of Kuwait Investments
Authority Bader Mohammed Al-Saad and Director of Fund for Economic
Development Abdulvahab Ahmad Al-Bader.

At the end of the day S. Sargsyan will meet with Kuwait Emir, after
which a number of cooperation documents will be signed between the
Republic of Armenia and the State of Kuwait.

Then state dinner will be served in honor of S. Sargsyan on behalf
of Kuwait Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah.

The next day S. Sargsyan will visit Kuwait Scientific Center, will
meet with Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ali
Mohammad Thunian Al-Ghanim.

In the second half of the day the delegation led by S. Sargsyan will
return to Yerevan.

WASHINGTON, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. U.S. Senator Harry Reid called
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for meeting with representatives
of the American Armenian community. Radio Liberty reported this citing
the Asbarez newspaper.

The Democrat Senator elected from Nevada touching upon the last
protocols signed between Turkey and Armenia mentioned: "I am convinced
you know that this agreement increased the concerns of the Armenian
community of the United States. I have received many letters from
Nevada, which do not support the creation of an international
commission to examine the issue of the genocide and think that the
protocols are not fair for Armenia. I also suggest that you meet with
representatives of American Armenian organizations for them to have
a possibility to share their views with you."

The newspaper added that though the issue of Armenia-Turkey relations
is one of the important issues of Obama-Biden administration’s
foreign political agenda, neither President Obama nor Secretary
of State Hillary Clinton have met with the leaders of the American
Armenian community.

Galstaun College Students Perform Concert Titled Trip To Armenia

GALSTAUN COLLEGE STUDENTS PERFORM CONCERT TITLED TRIP TO ARMENIA

SYDNEY, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. Over 400 members
of the Armenian Australian community were present at the Galstaun
College Primary concert titled Trip to Armenia, which was held at
Macquarie University on November 1.

Students from Kindergarten through to year 6 took the gathered on a
journey through Armenia’s most significant attractions, covering the
social, historical and cultural aspect of the country. The concert
included solo songs, group songs, dances and acting, as well as violin,
piano and poem recitals.

According to the website, the Trip to Armenia
concert was appropriately dedicated to the Armenian literary
anniversary of Tarkmanchats (Translators’ Day).

Principal Kaylar Michaelian thanked the Armenian language and music
staff of Galstaun College for their assistance in putting on this
impressive concert.
