2,000 PEOPLE OBJECT TO DEVELOPMENT OF IRON ORE DEPOSIT IN HRAZDAN

ArmInfo. 2,000 people have expressed their protest against the
development of iron ore deposit in Hrazdan.

Coordinator of Hrazdan Aarhus Center Edgar Yengibaryan says that the
deposit to be developed by Nagin company is situated 800 meters from
Hrazdan and 1.5 km from Hrazdan River.

Experts say that this project may result in heavy metal contamination
and serious ailments and may prove especially dangerous for children
(there are three schools 2 km from the deposit). Ph.D. Jennifer Lyman
(Environmental Center of AUA) predicts contamination of not only
irrigation but also drinking water as the deposit is situated near
several springs supplying water to hundreds of people. Meanwhile,
the project says that polluted water will be sent to a collector
near the village of Kagsi. "Fine but this collector has not worked
for several years," says Yengibaryan.

Unfortunately, all this has not prevented Nagin company from securing
the approval of the State Ecological Examination Committee of the
Ministry of Environment Protection of Armenia.

The company is going not only to develop the deposit but to build an
ore processing factory there.

Two public hearings have been held on this project since late 2008.

Representatives of Hrazdan Aarhus Center were also there. "July 30
we sent an open letter to President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan where
we specified all the ecological risks of this project but we have
received no answer so far," says Yengibaryan.

In order to show the public the threats of the project Hrazdan Aarhus
center has collected protest signatures. 2,000 people have objected
to the project so far.

The "Nature of Armenia" encyclopedia says that the Hrazdan deposit
contains 75mln-100mln tons of 27.95% iron ore.

AN EVENT ON INCREASING THE AWARENESS OF NKR TAKEN PLACE IN THE USA

The organization Americans for Artsakh held, at the Armenian Embassy
to Washington, an event on increasing the awareness of the events in
Armenia and Artsakh.

NKR Permanent Representative to the USA Robert Avetisian introduced
the history of the Karabakh conflict and the current situation in
the Republic.

It was noted at the event that the Caucasus occupies a significant
place in the international political life and it is extremely important
to thoroughly inform the public about Artsakh in order to help it
maintain its power and identity.

Executive Director of the Americans for Artsakh Sara Ludwig
informed the attendants about the organization’s projects, noting,
in particular, that corresponding trainings were planned in NKR for
governmental structures’ employees, young leaders, and other groups.

WHY SERGE SARGSYAN IS SILENT

On November 19, the representative of the Armenian National Congress
Aram Manukyan was asked the reason why Serge Sargsyan still keeps
silent and is not answering Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s speech.

Aram Manukyan noted Serge Sargsyan has two reasons not to response.

The first is that he must take to an end his arrangements related to
regional processes for the implementation of which he is an invention
for superpowers. Aram Manukyan dwelt on yielding of Zangelan and Fisuli
which according to him is a part of the arrangements with superpowers.

The second reason is that the criminal will not let Serge Sargsyan
resign since the criminal was Serge Sargsyan’s rear with the help of
which he became the president and consequently is in debt with it.

ANOTHER SCANDALOUS MURDER

In Armenia, a regular scandalous assassination took place. According to
the Police, in the night of November 18, the director of the Khosrov
forest state reserve Samvel Shaboyan was taken to a hospital in
Artashat with numerous arm injuries where he died short later. This
is reporter in the News.am web site. The case took place on the
Miasnikyan Avenue. Shaboyan’s car has been shot. Interestingly,
Shaboyan was not taken to a closer hospital in Yerevan but to Artashat.

A DEAL, ARF IS SURE

According to the representative of the ARF Bureau on Hay Dat and
Political issues Kiro Manoyan, Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s speech was full
of contradictions. One of them is that on the one hand he demands
the president’s resignation and on the other hand he proposes a deal
bringing the example of the Catholicos. The comments of the members
of the Congress in this connection are also contradictory.

The aim of Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s speech was to propose a deal to the
president. The government gives possibility to the HAK to become
a political force and in exchange, the HAK gives up demanding the
president’s resignation, thinks Kiro Manoyan.

According to him, the HAK has the problem to stay alive by the next
election because precedents in different countries showed that colorful
revolutions that the first president wanted to hold are possible only
during elections.

It is not surprising that Levon Ter-Petrosyan criticized the claiming.

He has never understood its essence and has never wanted to. This
criticism is in reality aimed at the ARF because the HAK lost the
oppositional monopoly because of the ARF. Dissatisfied with this,
it tries to harm the Dashnaktsutyun, the ARF member is sure.

COLLECTION DEDICATED TO ARAM MANUKYAN

On November 19, the Armenian government made the decision to publish
a collection of materials and documents about Aram Manukyan within
the frameworks of the events dedicated to his 130 anniversary. The
government allocated 1966.0 dram from its reserve fund as a donation
to the Armenian State Archive. The collection will be published in
1000 copies.

Aram Manukyan is the founder of the first Armenian republic, a
brilliant state and political figure.

ST. GEVORG CHURCH COLLAPSED

Today, at midnight, the St. Gevorg Church of Mughni in Tbilisi built
in 1356 collapsed. Besides, the main dome, the church had other three
small domes at its three angles. In 1736, St. Gevorg Church was one of
the seven churches of Tbilisi which was a part of the Haghpat diocese.

In 1789, the church tower was built. In 1795, the church was plundered
by the Iranians. In 1852-93, partial reconstructions were made in
the church.

During the Soviet years, the church served as a museum of folk art,
after a reserve and in 1990, it was definitely closed down being
qualified as non-recoverable.

St. Gevorg of Mughni is one of the five churches for which
St. Echmiadzin addressed a number of letters to return it to its
dioceses to the Georgian government, patriarchy, international
organizations.

This issue was brought up by the press too. But all remained
unanswered. Noteworthy, this is the second collapsed Armenian Church,
the first one collapsed in 1989.

We think the whole responsibility bears the Georgian ministry of
protection of culture and monuments. All this creates the impression
that the Georgian government not paying enough attention to the
preservation of churches, destroys them on purpose.

AINTAPTSI AND CONGRESS MEMBERS

No doubt, bringing the example of Yeghiazar Aintaptsi while turning to
Serge Sargsyan, Levon Ter-Petrosyan put his partners from the Congress
in a very uncomfortable situation especially those who often meet
with journalists. They faced the most difficult problem to explain
the significance of this example to the public. While, the feeling is
created that the Congress leaders themselves did not fully understand
what Levon Ter-Petrosyan meant by that example. Perhaps, this is the
reason why each of them explains this example on their own creating
the impression that they try to explain it first for themselves.

"In the XVII century, there was an ambitious clergyman in Turkey by
the name Yeghiazar Aintaptsi who managed to become the Catholicos
of the Armenians living in Turkey through bribes and breaches posing
to danger the unity of the Armenian Church and Armenian people. So,
the Echmiadzin clergymen held a session and told him, "Brother,
if you want to become a Catholicos, come and become the Catholicos
of All Armenians but do not pose the nation to danger". Yeghiazar
agreed and became the Catholicos of All Armenians and reigned for 10
years. And the danger posed to the Armenian church was prevented. I do
not remember another such a wider and wiser decision in the Armenian
history than the one the Echmiadzin clergymen took. Which is the
reason why Serge Sargsyan thinks the Armenian nation is not able to
express wisdom for national purposes?"

Levon Ter-Petrosyan seems to have expressed the example on
Aintaptsi quite clearly. What Levon Ter-Petrosyan wants to say seems
understandable: the problem is why he says it. While the Congress
leaders try to show only what he says. This means that they did not
understand what Ter-Petrosyan said, let alone understanding why he
said so. The situation is really hard. Ter-Petrosyan in essence said
a new thing, but his team is trying to comment on the new thing in
the old logic saying that the leader has always thought so.

>>From this point, the government treated this scandalous part of Levon
Ter-Petrosyan’s speech wisely and does not seem to say anything in
this connection. Maybe the government did not understand the meaning
either. But this seems to be a more reasonable behavior than the
attempts to explain something without having understood. The government
at least understands that Aintaptsi is not what Ter-Petrosyan has
always said. Consequently, old-fashioned answers were not to be given
to these new and not yet understood words. Razmik Zohrabyan tried to
commit the same mistake, but the government realized and prevented
the Zohrabyan syndrome in time and stopped the continuation of the
"dusted" thesis on Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s leaving politics. The
government decided not to voice any version until it has a complete
idea of Aintaptsi’s life and activities.

In this comparison, the nerves of the Congress which has always been
famous for its patience, give way and its leaders seem to compete
who of them will explain better the real aim and sense of Levon
Ter-Petrosyan’s speech. No one knows why, they think they understood
it better than the society and they had understood the meaning of
the example before the latter was voiced, before Levon Ter-Petrosyan
wrote his speech.

WE’LL SAY IT’S OURS, THE TURKISH THAT IT’S THEIRS

"We understand that having relations is inescapable, but we will face
obstacles when the Armenian and the Turkish start having relation with
each other as their perception about us, and our perception about us
and them is totally different and there are a lot of distorted facts,
our perceptions totally differ and many facts are created, a lot of
things have become a hostage to politics", – Aharon Adibekyan the
director of the "Sociometer" sociological center thinks.

A. Adibekyan informed that the historical realities, the cultural
heritage and the identification are distorted which will serve
the reason for conflicts between the two nations. As an example the
sociologist informed that in the Azerbaijani sites is said that "even
Iran is an Azerbaijani country and the Azeri get surprised what the
Persians do there", besides whatever is found in Armenia and Iran
are called Azerbaijani heritage.

"The Turkish call themselves premium nation in the Modern Asia, they
think they have 5 thousand years old history, they are originally
from Asia and all the nations now living in the present territory of
Turkey have been their successors", – A. Adibekyan said and added, –
"If we leave for Turkey tomorrow, we see our breeds there, our cuisine,
our songs and dances, architecture and say that all these is ours,
the Turkish will answer that it is theirs as they have been convinced
for many years that it is Turkish."

On this occasion the sociologist mentioned that the real problems
are not in political, economic, diplomatic relations which can be
solved but the humane relations. "How are we going to solve the humane
factor", – asked Aharon Adibekyan summing up his speech.
