Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini gives instructions to his players
during pre-season

Real Madrid’s players were put through their paces on Thursday morning
but the skeletal squad was reduced even further when several team
members went to work in the gym.

Manuel Pellegrini talked to the group that he had available for
several minutes before the session began and he then left the exercise
programme to fitness coach Jose Cabello.

Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Xabi Alonso and Raul Albiol are all
away with Spain as they prepare for the last two World Cup qualifiers
against Armenia and Bosnia.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Lassana Diarra, Karim Benzema, Jerzy Dudek,
Gonzalo Higuain, Kaka, Mahamadou Diarra and Rafael van der Vaart are
all with their national teams too.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, Alvaro Arbeloa and Royston Drenthe all worked in
the gym, while Fernando Gago worked outdoors as he looks to recover
from a knock.

Youngsters Felipe Ramos and Luis Hernandez made up the numbers as
the session ended with a four-a-side practice match that the players
clearly enjoyed.
