ARMENIA, SYRIA SIGN PROGRAM OF COOPERATION IN EDUCATION FOR 2008-2011

Yerevan

Armenian and Syrian ministers of education Spartak
Seyranian and Ali Saadi signed a cooperation program for 2008-2011, the
Press Service of Armenian Education Ministry.

As compared with the previous ones, this cooperation program provides for
wide opportunities, Armenian Ministry of Education reported. Under the
program, Armenia can send twice as many students to Syria under the student
exchange project than Syria to Armenia.

The program provides for new spheres of cooperation (exchanging music
teachers, scientific cooperation). The sides are to sign a document about
mutual recognition of higher school completion certificates.

In the scope of its visit to Syria Seyranian participated in the opening of
an Armenian studies center in the University of Aleppo.

The Minister also discussed opening of an Armenian studies chair in the
University of Damascus. The rector welcomed the idea and proposed to sign a
relevant document.

Under the cooperation program, the sides are also to use mutual scientific
and research opportunities and develop joint scientific programs.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
