Due to the latest political developments in the Armenian capital,
Yerevan, where the riots occured in, as of March 1st and as a result
of the elections outcome, the government has imposed a State of
Emergency until 20th March. Due to this development, the Armenian
national final, scheduled for 8th March has had to be drastically
restructured. The concert planned to select the Eurovision Song
Contest entry has been cancelled.

The Armenian national final, where Sirusho was to perform the songs
that the public will select as the Armenian entry she will sing at
the Eurovision Song Contest was set to take place at the Academic
Opera and Ballet Theatre this Saturday. With regret, the show has
now been cancelled.

Instead, the national final will be filmed at a television studio
with limited access. A spokesperson for the national broadcaster,
ARMTV has told esctoday.com that "It will be unfair and not correct
towards people who have recenly lost their relatives during these
latest developments in Yerevan to hold the concert. Instead, ARMTV
is arranging a National Final TV Show. It will take place at the same
day and at same time".

The show will still take place this Saturday 8th March, 2008 at 18:30
CET (21:30 local time.)

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
