YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 22, ARMENPRESS: A deputy prosecutor-general Gagik
Jahangirian, who led the investigation into the 1999, October 27
parliamentary attack, has joined today ex-president Levon Ter-Petrosian
and tens of thousands of his supporters who demand invalidation of
the official results of the last Tuesday presidential election which
gave the victory to prime minister Serzh Sarkisian.

Later in the day Sona Truzian, a spokeswoman for the office of
prosecutor-general, confirmed that the prosecutor-general asked
president Robert Kocharian to dismiss Jahangirian for gross violation
of the law which bans prosecutors from being involved in politics or
belonging to political parties.

In the meantime thousands of opposition activists continued rallying
again in the center of the Armenian capital Yerevan on a third day
of protests.

Levon Ter-Petrosian asked his supporters not to break order. Raffi
Hovhanesian, leader of the opposition Zharangutyun (Heritage) party,
also addressed the crowd.

Armenian police said the rally was unauthorized.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
