Today John Prescott, the president of Election Mission announced
that the evaluation of Parliamentary Congress on Armenian forthcoming
presidential elections is in accordance with the evaluation published
by the OSCE/ODIHR.

According to the observers, holding legitimate democratic elections
is closely connected with the increase of society’s belief. The
observers are concerned with the fact that people do not believe
in the pre electoral campaigns. Thus they advise the government to
organize everything possible to change the situation.

The observers paid much attention on the fact how much all the
candidates and their activities were covered by the media before
the election campaign started. It was found out that Armenian media;
particularly Public TV does not keep the balance among the candidates.

According to Prescott the problem is connected with having Prime
Minister among the candidates. He said that Serzh Sargsyan’s
willingness not to quit his position is appreciated but it creates
unfair game. He said that many candidates complained only for that
reason.

The observers should carry out open meeting and announce the results
of their examination. They met with the president, CEC chairman,
National Assembly chairman, representatives of some NGO-s and
candidates themselves. Prescott refused to name the candidate they
did not meet with. He just commented that the particular candidate
had very hard schedule.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
