VANADZOR, OCTOBER 29, NOYAN TAPAN. The International Tournament named
after Stepan Sargsian, a silver medal winner of the Olympic Games,
was held in Vanadzor between October 27 and 28. About 120 delegates
from 9 countries took part in this international tournament. 40
wrestlers from Armenia competed. Among them Suren Markosian, Jirayr
Hovhannisian, and Arshak Hayrapetian (three of them 66kg), which
took the first three places with the same regular succession were
distiguished for their good preparedness.

Another eight wrestlers from Armenia became second and third prize
winners.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
