OPPOSITION LEADERS GROW RICHER WHILE SOME PEOPLE ARE EAGER TO HELP OPPOSITION WITH MONEY

Lragir, Armenia
Aug 30 2007

On August 30 Paruir Hairikyan who had initiated the second meeting
of opposition leaders on August 28 at the Congress Hotel stated at
the Hayatsk press club there is no need for mystical suggestions
regarding the meetings because the political figures meet, express
their thoughts, listen to one another and leave richer than they
had come. Paruir Hairikyan certainly meant mental wealth but he
did not bypass the issue of mental health. For the question if the
oppositionists who meet are the shadow government, and whether the
opposition’s platform and funds are discussed, the leader of the NSDU
gave an indirect but distinctly positive answer. He said although
these issues are not discussed directly, the developments may lead to
it, and it will be logical because the format will reflect the shadow
government and parliament. As to funds, Paruir Hairikyan thinks there
was no discussion but it is obvious that the situation makes money
necessary. However, he thinks this issue is easy to solve because
when the pole of democratic forces emerges, there are a number of
people who are eager to support them.

However, Paruir Hairikyan stressed once again that similar issues
are not discussed yet. "We continue discussions which are not aimed
at acting together. I initiated this not to have the parliamentary
election repeat. Everyone wanted a common candidate, everyone allegedly
consulted one another separately, in the end there was nothing,
everyone wanted but nobody knew in the end whose fault it was,"
Paruir Hairikyan says.

As to the time of the third meeting, Paruir Hairikyan says it can be
considered started because after the meeting at the Congress Hotel
smaller meetings are held, as to the general meeting, it must be a
general decision, says the initiator of the meeting.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
