Stepanakert, 7 July: "We have no right to give to anybody the victory
achieved at such a high price. All the achievements should be preserved
with the help of the people, and to make this possible, the life should
be better," Nagornyy Karabakh republic [NKR] presidential candidate and
Karabakh Communist Party leader Hrant Melkumyan has said when
campaigning in the NKR town of Martakert.

Questions regarding the Nagornyy Karabakh conflict settlement process,
agriculture development and dwelling issues were asked. He [Melkumyan]
will work to improve the demographic situation and birth rates if
elected president. Melkumyan urged the people to vote for the best
candidate, first familiarizing themselves with the election platforms
of the candidates.

"We have to prove to the world that Nagornyy Karabakh is a democratic
and civilized country," Melkumyan said. His political principles
include social justice, real democracy, protection of human rights and
freedoms, the rule of law and the international recognition of the
NKR’s independence.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
