UN disinterested in conflicts in former USSR – ministry

MOSCOW. Sept 14 (Interfax) – The inclusion of the issue of frozen
conflicts on the territory of the former USSR on the agenda of the
61st session of the United Nations’ General Assembly at the initiative
of GUAM member states does not show the United Nations’ interest in
the issue, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Sixteen states voted for the GUAM initiative, 15 voted against, and
there were 65 abstentions. This does not give grounds to say that the
voting proves the UN’s interest in conflicts on the territory of the
former Soviet Union," the press and information department of the
Russian Foreign Ministry told Interfax on Thursday.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
