WHERE ARE THE VOTES OF THE RELATIVES?

Member of the National Democratic Union Party administration Atabek
Vardanyan held a press conference today in the party office in order to
complain of the forgeries in the Yerevan Shengavit community elections
of aldermen.

“The party promised to participate in the elections of Local governing
bodies in fall, so I decided to put forward my candidacy as alderman”,
said the NDU member and started to complain, “Even in the electoral
areas where my relatives live and I was supposed to have at least
50-100 votes. I had none”.

Atabek Vardanyan called those who had “stolen” his votes “foxes
stealing hens” and expressed his special discontent with the heads
of the committees who had been the organizers of forgeries.

“In the electoral area N11 the elections have been announced invalid,
and according to my information the leader of the Orinats Yerkir
Party Arthur Baghdasaryan and the Shengavit community head have had
a finger in it”, he said.

Let us remind you that the Shengavit community elections of aldermen
have been announced invalid and new elections have been fixed for
October 9.

THE INTERESTS OF ARMENIA AND GREECE COINCIDE

Today the RA Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan received the Greek
National Defense Minister Spilios Spiliotopulos and his delegation.

Andranik Margaryan and Spilios Spiliotopulos underlined that the
strategic interests of Armenia and Greece in the region coincide. The
approach is the same as to the membership of Turkey to EU, according
to which the long process of negotiations will make the country
more controllable; both countries will try to use the fact in order
to solve many problems – the recognition of Cyprus, the opening of
Armenian borders and others.

The RA Prime Minister and the Greek Defense Minister also agreed that
one of the main aims of recognizing the Armenian Genocide is to avoid
suchlike crimes in future and to protect the humanity from them.

ACT OF COMPLAIN IN A WRONG PLACE

Today a group of residents from the “Union of volunteer gardening
in the Nor Nork, Berdazor and Kaqavadzor areas” were demonstrating
opposite the Ministry of Justice. They are all trying to protect
their lands.

At last the head of the Control Department of MJ Vardan Stepanyan
received a few demonstrators and advised them to apply to court for
solving the problem. According to our information the Prosecution
department of Yerevan brought a suit to the Court of the Nor Nork
Community for taking away the lands.

So It’s interesting, why the residents were demonstrating in front
of the MJ and not a bit far in front of the Prosecution /Panorama.am/

OSKANYAN MEETS LENMARKER

Today RA Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan received the OSCE
Parliamentary Assembly President’s special representative on Nagorno
Karabakh affairs Goran Lenmarker who has arrived in Yerevan to
participate in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly seminar.

Lenmarker represented the results of the OSCE PA Washington annual
sitting of July, during which the OSCE PA President’s special
representative made speech. The Minister evaluated the report as
positive mentioning that it represented the real state of the procedure
of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Oskanyan
and Lenmarker also exchanged thoughts about the perspectives of
peaceful settlement.

The RA Foreign Minister and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President’s
special representative also referred to the present state of the
Armenian-Turkish relations and their perspectives, as well as to the
negotiations of Turkey on membership to EU.

THE ONLY WAY OUT IS UNITY BETWEEN ARMENIA AND DIASPORA

Today during the reception in the Armenian Center for National and
International Studies in connection with the 11th anniversary of the
Center the RA ex Foreign Minister Raffi Hovannisian who has never
had a strictly oppositional attitude made a speech about the present
political state in the country.

The leader of the Heritage party criticized severely the authorities
“which have privatized the foreign policy and the economy
of the country and are not even able to make simply political
calculations”. “The authorities who tell tales on democracy abroad
evict the people of their houses inside their own country in order
to build houses for the so-called elite”.

Raffi Hovannisian also reminded those present about the Mass Media
field where after banning “A1+” and Noyyan Tapan of air the television
has been privatized too filling it with programs testifying to the
lack of taste of their makers.

“There can be no void in the nature, and if there is no democracy,
usurpation comes to take its place”, announced Raffi Hovannisian and
noted that Armenia which has become a totalitarian country has lost
its place in the international community. “Our voice is no more heard
in the world”, he announced and reminded that the first step to euro
integration was made the very first year of independence, when he
himself as the first RA Foreign Minister made the step. And today,
according to him, Armenia is moving farther and farther of Europe.

As for the economy of the country, Raffi Hovhannisyan noted that
both in rich America and in poor Armenia petrol costs 80cents. And
in Armenia the sums taken from the people are used by several families.

Referring to the Constitutional reforms, Raffi Hovannisian noted
that they were made under the CoE pressure, but it is not possible
“to cover cracked up walls with Euro repairing”. The only way out of
the situation created, according to Raffi Hovanissian, is unity not
only inside Armenia but also that between Armenia and the Diaspora.

MONEY WILL NOT RESTORE FAITH

“Money is not important, what is important is that we are ignored”,
the residents of the North and Main Avenues say.

Today from 11:00 a.m. they were gathered opposite the President’s
residence and cried, “Kocharyan, leave us”. Let us remind you that
the residents of the North and Main Avenues demand full compensation
for their houses.

Today the head of the Yerevan urban development investments
office Karen Davtyan and the Municipality Realty Administration
head Gagik Mazmanyan were “waiting” for the marchers opposite the
President’s residence. Karen Davtyan arranged a meeting with them,
and Mr. Mazmanyan claimed that the majority of the problems have been
solved, and only a small amount has remained which is on the way of
being solved.

Despite the promises, the marchers do not believe in nay financial
compensation, that’s why tomorrow they will continue their meeting
opposite Robert Kocharyan’s residence.

KOCHARYAN REVENGING?

“Today’s authorities do not recognize us. The President and the Prime
Minister want to take our lands away. This is the order of Kocharyan
– to destroy what we have built. He was not elected, that’s why he
revenges”, said Artyom Navasardyan today during the act of complain
organized today opposite the Ministry of Justice.

Today the residents of the Aygegortsakan street in Nor Norq community
were gathered there. Several court decisions concerning them have
been made, and the people are evicted of their houses without any
compensation.

“There are about 1200 families in that area. Since 1970 we have
been cultivating those stony lands and made them a paradise, and
now they are depriving us of our houses. 40-50 families will remain
shelterless”, the residents complain. About 32 NGOs supported them
today.

The head of the Justice Ministry Control Department Vardan Stepanyan
received the marchers today. According to him, the Ministry has
nothing to do with the problem, and he advised them to apply to court.

October 6-8 on Robert Kocharyan’s invitation the President of
Latvia Mrs.

Vaira Vike-Freyberga will arrive in Armenia on official duty together
with her husband Imants Freyberga.

The delegation of the Latvian President includes the Ministers of
Economy, Transport and Communication, and Culture, as well as other
officials and about 50 businessmen.

The main aim of the visit is to stimulate the development of the
links between the countries and to mention the primary directions of
economic cooperation. The heads of the countries will discuss the
cooperation between EU and Armenia, issues about regional problems
and will exchange ideas about urgent international problems.

LATVIA READY TO SHARE EXPERIENCE OF INTEGRATION INTO EUROPEAN STRUCTURES

should accept the values and principles the EU is based upon,”
Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga stated when commenting on the
prospects of opening the borders with Armenia and establishment of
the Armenian-Turkish diplomatic relations within the EU-Turkey talks
framework. “The candidates for the European Union should be unanimous
in comprehension of history and develop constructive relations with
the neighbors”, the Latvian President stated on the threshold of
her visit to Yerevan. “Armenia has chosen European values and we are
interested in cooperation on the Armenia-EU Action Plan within EU New
Neighborhood Policy by conveying our experience of integrating into the
European structures”, she added. When touching upon the Armenia-NATO
relations the Latvian President noted, “There exist some essential
standards. Interchangeability of army is one of these standards. Latvia
has gained a valuable experience and is ready to share it and offer
consultations of Latvian military experts”, reported Mediamax.

ARMENIAN AND AZERI DELEGATIONS TO PACE TO MEET IN STRASBOURG

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ A meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani delegations
to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council if Europe will take
place in Strasbourg today. Chairman of the PACE Ad Hoc Committee on
Nagorno Karabakh, Lord Russell-Johnston is expected to take part in
the meeting. The Azeri party will be represented by delegation head
Samed Seidov and MP Asim Mollazade, Mediamax new agency reports.
