Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Bureau’s Hay Dat and Political Affairs
Office met with Turhan Comez, a member of the Turkish Parliament,
representing the ruling party, Yerkir Online reports. The one-hour
meeting that took place in the lobby of the Marriott Armenia hotel was
also attended by Samson Ozararat, Armenia’s representative in the Black
Sea Economic Cooperation Council, and Comez’s partners. The parties
discussed issues related to the Armenian-Turkish relations. Manoian
pointed out that a dialogue is possible only when it is genuine, and
the sides should be honest with themselves. But the facts indicate
that in Turkey, no sincere environment for such internal discussions
is yet in place. At the end of the meeting, Manoian, speaking to
journalists accompanying the Turkish politician, pointed to the role
of press in the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations,
emphasizing the need for responsible reporting.

under the RA President, Defense Minister Serge Sargsian met with
UK Special Representative for the South Caucasus Sir Brian Fall,
RA Defense Minister~Rs Press Secretary, Colonel Seyran Shahsuvarian
reported. UK Ambassador to Armenia Thorda Abbot-Watt was also present
at the meeting. At the guest~Rs request Serge Sargsian presented
him the details of his recent visit to Brussels noting the meeting
with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. The parties also
touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement.

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Today Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian
met with his Chinese associate Li Zhaoxing, RA MFA press center
reported. During the meeting the parties discussed the Armenian-Chinese
relations and noted the 73% growth of the trade-economic balance. They
also considered scientific and technical cooperation as well as
programs targeted at student exchange and investigations to be
carried out by Armenian specialists in the Chinese universities. Li
Zhaoxing noted that according to the conclusions of the joint expert
groups, cooperation between Armenia and China can develop in medicine,
agricultural machine-building, grape growing and wine-making. Noting
the Armenian-Chinese close political ties the parties discussed the
prospects of cooperation within international structures including
the UN. The Ministers also touched upon the Karabakh and Taiwan
problems. Upon completion of the meeting they signed an agreement
on mutual providing of buildings, constructions and lands for
embassies. Besides, Vartan Oskanian and Li Zhaoxing exchanged letters
on the 5 million yuan ($800 thousand) Chinese grant as a technical
assistance to Armenia. After the meeting the RA FM attended the new
Armenian Embassy in Beijing.

Fall and Director of the Asia-Pacific, Foreign and Commonwealth
Office Simon Smith are paying a call to Armenia June 12-14. Meetings
with President Robert Kocharian, Defense Minister Serge Sargsian and
Minister of trade and Economic Development Karen Chashmaritian, Deputy
Foreign Minister Gegham Gharibjanian as well as representatives of
opposition parties and public organizations are scheduled. The visit
is dated to the UK~Rs assumption of presidency in the EU. The parties
are expected exchange views on issues to be discussed at the period,

Beijing, 14 June: Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department
of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), met
here Tuesday [14 June] with Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan.
Wang said the CCP will further enhance cooperation and exchanges with
the political parties of Armenia and make concerted efforts for the
promotion of state-to-state relationship between China and Armenia.
Oskanyan arrived here Monday for an official visit to China as guest
of Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.
Oskanyan said the Armenian government attaches importance to the
development of relations with China and will further push forward
the friendly exchanges between the Armenian ruling party with CCP.

6th Contest-Festival Of Disabled Veterans Of Karabakh War Starts In

6tH CONTEST-FESTIVAL OF DISABLED VETERANS OF KARABAKH WAR STARTS IN NKR
STEPANAKERT, June 13. /ARKA/. The 6th annual contest-festival
of disabled veterans of the Karabakh War has been started in the
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). The festival has been organized
by the NKR Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, NKR Ministry
of Defense and NKR Ministry of Social Security. The public has the
opportunity to visit a selling exhibition of disabled soldiers’
works – works of wood, precious metals, as well as pictures.
Many disabled soldiers are taking course of physiotherapy and learning
professions at the Stepanakert Rehabilitation Center.
Sport competitions have been held, and the winners will receive
bonuses and commemorative prizes. A gala concert and an excursion to

HOMAGE OF THE LEGENDARY KARABAKH WAR HERO MONTE MELKONYAN (AVO) PAID
IN THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH REPUBLIC
STEPANAKERT, June 13. /ARKA/. Homage of the legendary Karabakh war
hero Monte Melkonyan (Avo) was paid in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic
on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of his death. According to
ARKA’s reporter in Stepanakert, to participate in the event, friends
and relatives of the hero, including the widow of Monte Melkonyan-
Seda Melkonyan- arrived in NKR from the USA.
The majority of the events, in which representatives of the
authorities, public and the NKR Army of Defense participated, was
held in the regional center of Martuni, where a monument to Monte
Melkonyan was established. The local youth collectives were introduced
the literature-musical composition, in the course of which songs were
sung and poems recited about the hero.
Monte Melkonyan was born in the city of Varselia (California). In
October 1991 as a volunteer he came to NKR, joining the military
actions on defense of Buzluz, Manashid, Erkeja of Shahumyan region of
NKR. In the future he became the commander of Martuni defense region.
He participated in the military actions on defense of the territorial
integrity of NKR almost in all the regions of the republic, having
won nation-wide love.
Monte Melkonyan is the hero of Artsakh and Armenia. A.H. -0–

26 Karabakh Children With Muscoloskeletal Diseases Treated In German

26 KARABAKH CHILDREN WITH MUSCOLOSKELETAL DISEASES TREATED IN GERMANY
STEPANAKERT, June 13. /ARKA/. Twenty-six children with muscoloskeletal
diseases from the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) have been treated
in Germany since 1996 under a program implemented by the German
Fund Health to Children. The next group of children wishing to go to
Germany for treatment is being examined at the Stepanakert Children’s
Hospital now. They are mostly children that received traumas typical
of post-Soviet states.

meeting with United Kingdon Representative to the South Caucasus

UK Ambassador to Armenia Torda Abbot Watt. At Sir Fall’s request,
Minister Sargsyan presented the detau8ls of his recent visit to
Brussels, ;laying emphasis on his meeting with NATO Secretary General
