Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a statement on April 24, Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

Erdogan’s statement was conveyed to the Armenian community through the patriarchate. 

The statement was read during a mass at the Surp Hagop (Saint Jacob) Armenian Church on the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Istanbul by Armenian Patriarchal Vicar Priest Grigor Tamatyan, according to the local Agos newspaper.

As every year, Erdogan once again began his message with the same wording, stating: “This year as well, I respectfully remember the Ottoman Armenians who lost their lives under the difficult conditions of the First World War, and I extend my condolences to their grandchildren.”

The President of Türkiye stated that during the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, “the peoples of the Ottoman Empire suffered great pain due to occupations, clashes, rebellions, the actions of bandits, and diseases.”

“Unfortunately, Ottoman Armenians, who lived under the rule of the Ottoman Empire and made valuable contributions in various fields, also suffered great pain,” Erdoğan said, claiming that “the Republic of Türkiye has been able to understand how to overcome these pains without forgetting them.”

The President of Türkiye stated that they aim to leave future generations a legacy in which “truth is connected to conscience, rather than to painful memories.”

“As an 86-million-strong nation, we will build our future together and the legacy we will leave to our grandchildren. With these thoughts, I once again share in the pain experienced by Armenian society in the past and respectfully commemorate the memory of all Ottoman citizens who lost their lives,” the concluding part of Erdogan’s message states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus has commemorated the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

“On Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, we remember the victims of the Genocide and vow to uphold their sacred memory. Never Again,” the ministry said on X.

April 24, 2026, marks the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, on Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, highlighted that Russia was among the first countries in the world to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide.

Speaking at a weekly press briefing, Zakharova said that Russia mourns together with the Armenian people on the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the Ottoman Empire.

“Today we extend our deepest condolences to the Armenian people and share their mourning on this day, as always. I would also like to remind you that Russia’s position is objective and consistent—mass extermination based on nationality cannot be justified under any circumstances,” she said.

Zakharova emphasized that from the very beginning, this horrific tragedy has been perceived in Russia as its “own pain.”

In 1995, the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide.

Earlier today, Russian President Vladimir Putin released a statement paying tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

A commemorative event marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held on Friday in Berlin, Germany.

The ceremony took place near the Armenian cross-stone outside St. Hedwig’s Cathedral.

The Armenian Embassy in Germany said in a press release that Ambassador Viktor Yengibaryan, Bundestag Vice President Bodo Ramelow, as well as representatives of the Armenian community, attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

On April 24 in Brussels, the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Armenia participated in events marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. 

The commemorations began at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Belgium and continued with an official ceremony held at the khachkar dedicated to the memory of the martyrs of 1915, the Embassy of Armenia to Belgium and Mission of Armenia to the EU said in a press release.

During the commemoration ceremony, remarks were delivered by Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Armenia in Brussels Vardan Sargsyan, Mayor of Ixelles Christos Doulkeridis, Member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives Michel De Maegd, Senator Karl Vanlouwe, and President of the Committee of Armenians in Belgium, Robert Unusyan.

In his speech, Vardan Sargsyan addressed the importance of preserving the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, presenting the initiatives of the Republic of Armenia on international platforms aimed at preventing genocides and crimes against humanity, and emphasizing the imperative of joint efforts within this agenda.

The event was also attended by members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Belgium, as well as high-ranking officials from the executive and legislative branches, members of parliament, and representatives of Armenian community organizations in Belgium.

At the conclusion of the event, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the khachkar dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

A commemorative event marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held on April 24 at the Armenian Pantheon of Tbilisi, also known as Khojivank.

Armenian Ambassador to Georgia Ashot Smbatyan and embassy staff laid a wreath at the khachkar (cross-stone) memorial honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide, the embassy reported.

Heads and members of diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia, as well as representatives of the Armenian community in Georgia, also paid their respects and laid flowers.

Aram Mikayelyan, a representative of the Armenian community in Georgia and an actor at the Petros Adamyan Tbilisi State Armenian Drama Theatre, stated in his speech that on April 24, in the Republic of Armenia and in nearly all countries around the world where Armenians live, the Armenian people commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide carried out in the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 20th century.

Duduk artists Harutyun Chkolyan and Karen Sirakanyan, who arrived from Armenia, performed musical pieces at the memorial event.

The European People’s Party (EPP), the largest party in the European Parliament, has released a statement marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

“Today, we stand alongside the Armenian people in remembrance and solidarity. We have a duty to uphold their memory with dignity and to persist in the pursuit of justice. We urge Turkey to confront the truth of the past and to engage in sincere steps towards reconciliation, opening a path to a more peaceful and shared future,” the EPP said in the statement.

A commemoration ceremony marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in Kyiv, Ukraine, the Union of Armenians of Ukraine said in a press release.

“Representatives of the Armenian community of Kyiv, the Union of Armenians of Ukraine, clergy of the Armenian Apostolic Church led by Bishop Markos Hovhannisyan, representatives of Ukrainian churches, and diplomats from the embassies of Armenia and friendly countries attended the event,” the press release said.

The ceremony took place in central Kyiv near a khachkar dedicated to the memory of Ukrainian and Armenian victims of the 20th century.

According to the statement, commemorative events were also held in many regions of Ukraine, where the security situation allowed.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, on the occasion of Citizen’s Day, visited the town of Maralik in Shirak Province to deliver a lecture on the “Real Armenia” doctrine.

The video of the lecture has been published online.

Last year, Prime Minister Pashinyan, in an address to the nation, unveiled the “Real Armenia” doctrine, a proposed plan for political and economic transformation. It focuses on all areas of public life and emphasizes the need for citizens to form a new understanding of patriotism, among other goals.

Pashinyan has since said that the “Real Armenia” doctrine made peace with Azerbaijan possible.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited downtown Yerevan on Saturday to participate in the Citizen’s Day celebrations, an annual public holiday observed since 2019.

Pashinyan toured the food festival on Amiryan Street and spoke with people, who also took selfies with him. A concert will take place at 20:00 in Republic Square, Yerevan. Pashinyan said he would also attend the concert.
