Today, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan left for Jermuk city of Vayots Dzor region on a working visit to discuss the situation around the Amulsar mine with the people of Jermuk. This was reported by the press service of the government.
Nikol Pashinyan toured Jermuk, met with the city’s population, visited Jermuk sanatoriums, talked with the residents of Jermuk about the situation in Amulsar. The head of the government referred to the results of the conclusion of the international examination of the Amulsar mine project, discussed with the residents of Jermuk issues related to the options for solving the situation.
The Prime Minister also met the citizens gathered in Jermuk Square and delivered a speech. In his speech, Nikol Pashinyan noted that since the day he was elected the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the Amulsar issue was the only issue on which he personally read all the letters addressed to him. “In June-July last year, a large pile of letters was formed, and I personally read them. That you say: listen to the voice of the people, the voice of the people has always been heard, and I hope you know that the voice of the people cannot be unheard in today’s Armenia.
As I stated last year, the solution to this issue can be based on the balanced interests of the Republic of Armenia. Now there is a claim that the air will be polluted, the water will be polluted, the soil will be polluted, there will be noise, there will be dust, the ground water will be polluted. If found to be the case, the mine cannot be operated. But if it turns out that it is not so, it is a different situation,” the head of the government said.
“The only discomfort in this whole story is that we are no longer listening to each other, what we are saying. That is the biggest problem today. I say that I personally read all the letters you wrote, all the messages you sent, hundreds of pages, in June-July last year. And this criminal case that was initiated was initiated on my initiative, the international examination that took place was on my initiative, and it was my commitment to you,” the Prime Minister emphasized.
Nikol Pashinyan referred to the results of the international examination of the Amulsar mine project. “The conclusion of Ellard company is there, and there are different interpretations related to the conclusion. The official conclusion is that there is no danger related to Jermuk’s mineral waters, Lake Sevan, you have read, you know. We are talking about the interpretation of the conclusion of “Ellard”. there is a problem of interpretation, and since there has been a debate about it, I have decided that on Thursday or Friday, we will have a Skype conference with the Ellard expert group, during which we will say that there is a big debate in Armenia about what you wrote, and what is your conclusion, you say your own conclusion. That entire conversation will be recorded and published.”
The head of the government offered the population of Jermuk to formulate the issues related to the conclusion, which will be raised during the consultation. “Although, in fact, the questions are public, and we can collect those questions. if you read the transcript of the meeting on the morning of August 19th, you saw the questions that you were asking in our meeting, I raised in that meeting. The meeting will take place, we will record it, we will publish it, let “Ellard” comment on what he wrote, his conclusions, we will publish it and talk,” said the Prime Minister and added that he will hold the meeting personally so that clear answers are given and there is no room for misinterpretation.
Concluding his speech, Nikol Pashinyan emphasized: “My position is one. if it turns out to be true that our water will be polluted, our air will be polluted, our grass will be polluted, our land will be polluted, the mine cannot work. But if it turns out that the problem is only that some kind of roof is visible from the window, that’s a different situation that we have to discuss.”
Then Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a meeting with representatives of Jermuk population.
