As a result of large-scale operative-investigative measures and complex investigative activities carried out by the operative units of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia and the investigative department, a criminal group engaged in the production and sale of counterfeit banknotes was discovered, more than 850 thousand USD counterfeit banknotes were found, of which 25 thousand were at the time of sale, and the rest were in the preparation stage, as well as the equipment intended for printing.

The press service of the NSS informs that the NSS employees, realizing the information received on the circulation of fake money, organized the purchase of 25 thousand USD counterfeit banknotes under operational control, after which simultaneous searches were carried out in a total of 13 apartments and cars, as a result of which about 835 thousand USD counterfeit banknotes, computer equipment for their printing and other accessories were found. 

About 1.5 kg of “marijuana” drug was also found at the place of printing of fake banknotes, part of which was weighed and packaged, possibly intended for sale.

7 members of the group were identified in the criminal case, arrests were made. The investigation is ongoing. Measures are being taken to identify other samples of counterfeit money in circulation.
