RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan today received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin. Issues related to the development of relations between the two countries in the field of criminal justice were discussed.

Mr. Kopirkin emphasized the need to further strengthen ties between the law enforcement systems of the two countries and the willingness of the Russian Embassy to assist in this matter.

The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia highly appreciated the existing cooperation between the Prosecutor’s Offices of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation in both bilateral and multilateral formats, which fully corresponds to the high level and spirit of allied, friendly relations between the two states.

Artur Davtyan emphasized that in 2006 To date, the cooperation programs established between RA and RF prosecutor’s offices at the level of general prosecutors provide ample opportunities to improve professional resources through joint measures, to create a more immediate environment for increasing the effectiveness of legal mutual assistance, and to outline new directions for expanding the scope of cooperation.

During the meeting, the problems related to the activation of the movement of citizens and services between friendly countries, the application of more effective mechanisms for the criminal legal protection of the rights of citizens in each other’s countries, the detection of persons evading justice, and the increase of joint efforts in the fight against crimes of a transnational nature were also discussed.

An agreement was reached to make such meetings more frequent in order to solve the issues on the agenda more promptly.

The Prosecutor General of RA also expressed his condolences to the Ambassador regarding the tragic death of Sahak Karapetyan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. Artur Davtyan noted that it was a great loss for the prosecutor’s office of Armenia, because the highly professional Armenian figure with his multi-skilled work, especially in the last decade due to the nature of his activities, greatly contributed to the development of relations between the prosecution structures of the two countries.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
