The newly-elected PM of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan held an exclusive interview with Georgia’s Public Broadcaster in which he touched on the issue of Georgian-Armenian relations.

Pashinyan said that relations between Georgia and Armenia must go even further. The PM of Armenia believes that inter-state relations between the two countries must not be founded on geopolitical factors or influence.

“Georgia is a friendly country to us. The brotherly relations between Georgia and Armenia must develop further; we truly are brotherly states and close partners. Georgia plays a very important role for Armenia in our programme. I think that our mutual relations must be free of all geo-political influences and factors. This has happened in the past. Unfortunately, this is not always a positive phenomenon and it can have negative consequences,” he said.

Pashinyan believes that Georgia and Armenia must establish relations outside the framework of geopolitical factors.

“I believe that we must form such relations as to free ourselves of geopolitical factors. Armenia and Georgia must have truly direct bilateral relations, which we must deepen in all spheres and fields including economy, politics and also people-to-people,” Nikol Pashinyan told TV channel Pirveli.
