Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received the members of the European side of the Armenia-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee headed by the co-chairman of the committee Sajad Karim.
The Prime Minister welcomed the holding of the 17th session of the RA-EU Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Yerevan and emphasized that the Republic of Armenia attaches importance to the signing of the Comprehensive and Extended Partnership Agreement with the European Union. “It is an important event for us. The agreement reaffirms both our commitment to continue the large-scale reforms underway in the country, and the EU’s commitment to support us in that process,” said Karen Karapetyan.
The Prime Minister informed that in order to implement the agreement, the creation of the coordinating interdepartmental commission is underway in the government. Karen Karapetyan highlighted the initial signing of the Common Aviation Zone Agreement within the framework of the Brussels summit, as well as Armenia’s membership in research and innovation “Horizon 2020” and SME support “COSME” programs, joining “Creative Europe” and successful completion of negotiations on “Partnership Priorities”.
Emphasizing that the ratification of the agreement will be an additional stimulus for European companies, the head of the government presented the available opportunities. The Prime Minister noted that considering the existing preferential regimes, Armenia should be considered as a platform through which it is possible to enter the markets of the Eurasian Economic Union, the European Union, the USA and Iran.
The Prime Minister also answered a number of questions of the European MPs, which, in particular, related to the implementation of the steps provided for in the agreement, the reforms initiated in various fields, the work being done in the direction of economic development and other issues.
