The fashion world flocked to London on Saturday and designers did not
disappoint, with a dazzling mixture of elegance and quirkiness.

Lily Cole, Erin O’Connor and Jasmine Guinness were among the
supermodels who ensured black was not boring for Qasimi’s opulent
collection which made up for its lack of colour with sumptuous fabrics
and striking silhouettes.

It was a complete contrast on the Charles Anastase catwalk where
influences ranged from Pierrot to rock star.

The overlap with New York was blamed for Friday’s low-key start to
London Fashion Week as many buyers and models were still flying back as
the catwalk shows began.

British model Daisy Lowe, fresh from modelling for Anna Sui in New
York, joined Pixie Geldof in the audience at Topshop Unique.

The high fashion chain’s designer showcase twinned a neutral base of
biscuit and dove grey with splashes of colour in a collection that
erred towards comfort and practicality.

Singer Roisin Murphy, model turned designer Ben Grimes and The Horrors
were among the bustling crowds at the shows and the exhibition of
designers which opened at the Natural History Museum.

Anastase’s autumn/winter collection was one of the day’s hottest
tickets.

The French/Armenian designer who is based in London, showed eclectic
ideas which included leather jackets, soft pastel draping and a top
with drawn-on lips and the slogan "I’m in training don’t kiss me".

One model wore Pierrot-style make-up with a whitened face, another was
painted with tattoos while some had bare faces except for a smudge of
silver lipstick.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
